Dear Doug:

Hello. I'm the editor of Floyd County Moonshine. We met briefly in the Floyd Country Store. Could you send me some of your moonlit landscape shots as soon as you get the chance? Send to floydshine@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Doug, I'm a tad late in commenting on your weight reduction, but I believe it's a good move for you. We're still in Yellowstone shooting nature, but will start a slow return to Floyd next week. Anyhoo, sure could have used your long lens here this month (if it fit a Nikon) where so many beautiful animals taunt photographers, tourist and pro alike, from hundreds of yards away.

Think you've slacked off. You're a piker in that regard, compared to some of us. At least you've been busy doing things that are important, like having fun and trying to stay (get?) yourself and family healthy. But, still, we look forward to what's in store for us, come May, maybe.

I'm a little late in responding, but I have to say I believe it's sad when equipment defines anyone's professional level, photographer or not. Guess I grew up believing a camera, a lens, or any of the hundreds of possible photographic accessories are simply tools that need to be replaced only when better tools become available that will help you do a better job. I've used Nikons as my 35mm format camera of choice since the 1950s when I left the Navy and became a civilian "professional." (As a Navy journalist, I used a 4x5 Speed Graphic.) And,I am a member of Nikon Professional Services, but if Nikon follows Canon's lead, I may decide to become a non-professional for the first time in over half a century.

I recently received an email informing me of a "perigee Moon" this Saturday night, January 10, 2009. The following link is to the NASA announcement: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/08jan_bigmoon2009.htm . I immediately thought of your moon photography. Hope the weather conditions are favorable for viewing. Thanks for sharing your photography.
