Of the winter storms that strike our area, ice is the most treacherous but also the most landscape altering. Unlike snow, which blankets the landscape in a monochromatic white,  ice adds a layer of contrast along with the sculpture of frozen water.

Alan Cantrell’s decision to retire as coach of the varsity girls’ basketball program at Floyd County High School after this season is truly the end of an era. Cantrell brought state championships home in both boys’ and girls’ basketball program  FCHS.
